Teachers Are The ‘Champions’ of Kids Voting Durham

Together, we can build a great new generation of informed citizens and candidates for the future.

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU

Partner with you to bring a Kids Voting Durham election to your school and offer curriculum ideas to tie voting and civic engagement into your other lesson plans.

Offer free downloadable lessons on U.S. elections. Register at https://kidsvotingusa.org/curriculum for access to free lessons and curriculum that are aligned with the National Core Standards, the North Carolina Essential Standards, and the National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies.
Provide materials and speakers for middle school civic events or lessons.

Engage talented middle and high students in service projects, such as managing Kids Voting Durham voting stations, writing candidate guides, and creating videos on civic issues.

Also, find a lot of cool democracy-themed resources here.

We work with individual teachers; public, private and charter schools; and PTA’s or other school groups.
Want to get your students involved with the upcoming election? Email Carolyn Kreuger or call 919-560-7321.

Educator Spotlight:

Linda Fisher

Shepherd offers an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme with a rigorous academic curriculum for grades 6-8, preparing students for high school and college, as well as active and responsible citizenship.
As part of being active and responsible citizens, Linda and the students in Shepherd’s service program have run the Shepard Kids Voting polling site and school-wide voting program for the last four years.

In addition, with Linda’s help, Shepherd students were featured on Nickelodeon’s 2008Kids Ask the Candidates program and routinely participate in KVD events such as candidate forums.
